Obituary of Maria Fischetti

Maria Fischetti, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 29th, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 81. Daughter of the late Francesco and Angela Monaco, she was born March 16th, 1933 in Long Island City. She married Michael Fischetti on October 30th, 1954; Mr. Fischetti preceded her in death, passing on September 24th, 2012. Maria, or as the people of Wappingers commonly referred to her, "the mayor", loved to be surrounded by people. She always put others needs ahead of her own. Fulfilling God's good work came naturally to her. Maria brought love and joy to whomever she met. A great story teller and poet, she lived to take us all somewhere else for a little while. Survivors include her children: Angela, Camille, Agatha, Michael and Frankie; 30 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Michael, she was predeceased by her sister, Agatha. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 4th, 2015 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, February 5th at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 754 East Gun Hill Road, Bronx, N.Y. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, 517 East 233rd Street, Bronx, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maria's name to any Humane Society or food pantry.
