H. William Shimmin
H. William Shimmin, Jr., 77, of Wappingers Falls, died Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.
Son of the late Harry W. and Elizabeth Shimmin, he was born September 28, 1930 in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in Milton, Massachusetts. He graduated from Northeastern University in 1957.
Bill served in the army during the Korean War and retired after 35 years as an engineer for IBM, East Fishkill in 1989. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club.
Bill was an active member of the New Hackensack Reformed Church for 44 years, where he served on the Consistory, the building committee and in many other capacities. He was on the Board of the New Hackensack Nursery School for many years, played Santa Claus for them, made projects with the children and is known as "Uncle Bill" to hundreds of school children.
Bill leaves his wife of 56 years, Marjorie W. Shimmin, his daughter Janet G. Shimmin of Beverly, Massachusetts, his sisters Linda Reed of Frederick, MD and Lois Pacheco of Largo, FL, his brother-in-law Carl D. Reed and his two nephews. As well as Marjorie's brother Horace Wood, his wife Phyllis, a niece and nephew. His son Peter W. Shimmin died in California, in 2001.
A memorial service will be held Thursday August 28, at 11:00 am at the New Hackensack Reformed Church on Rte 376, in Wappingers Falls, followed by a light lunch with family in the church hall. A private family burial will precede the service.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the New Hackensack Reformed Church Mortgage Fund, 1580 Route 376, Wappingers Falls, New York 12590 is suggested.
