Obituary of Edward J. Powers

Edward J. Powers Edward J. Powers, a longtime resident of Wappingers Falls and formerly of Yonkers, entered into rest Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Lutheran Care Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 77. Son of the late James J. and Margaret P. Connolly Powers, he was born December 10, 1930 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Edward proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1952. On January 18, 1953 at Holy Rosary Church in Yonkers, he married the love of his life Micki Carr. Mrs. Powers preceded him in death on October 12, 2001 and he has now gone on to join her. Edward was a Police Officer with the Yonkers Police Department. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant in July 1991. He was a member of the Westchester Emerald Society Pipes and Drum Band. Edward was an avid bowler and enjoyed the time he spent on various leagues at Fishkill Bowl and Holiday Bowl as well as the many friends he made over the years. He also enjoyed traveling and camping. Survivors include his children, Linda Powers Schmidt and her husband, William of Wappingers Falls and Edward M. Powers and his wife, Patricia of Stormville; three grandchildren, Kevin Schmidt and Skylar and Andalee Powers and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, James Robert Powers. Family will receive their friends on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 from 2 to 4 And 7 to 9 pm at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 3 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9, Fishkill.
